The new mother is getting some well deserved rest right now, basically the first time she has slept since Wednesday night! Well many of you already know Erin had a difficult pregancy... She was throwing up sick for the first 2 trimesters, and the pinched nerve in her leg made walking unbearable at times. So for sure Erin deserved to have an easy birth! The little contractions started feeling not so little at about 11:30 Thursday night, but Erin was convinced they would go away and the baby was still at least a week away. But by about 4 a.m. they started getting really painful and Erin realized this was no false alarm. So we got in the car and arrived at Overlake Hospital at about 4:30. Erin was nervous they were going to turn her away, but the nurses said she was at 3 cm. We were told that the baby was coming that day, but probably not till later that afternoon/evening. So we waited and waited for the busy anesthesiologist to get erin's epideral hooked up, as Erin's contractions were really hurting her every 2 minutes. Finally at about 6:30 Erin got her Epideral hooked up, and she was feeling 100% better within about 15 minutes! Of course, before things kicked in, she was nervous that it wasn't working and the pain would never go away. She was able to relax and take a little nap as we waited for our doctor to arrive. Erin had to toss her cookies just a few last times just for good measure, and the nurse commented that it would serve to push the baby out. Meanwhile, our doctor was very busy. He had done a C-section last night at midnight, and delivered a baby and performed two surgeries before walking in our door at 10 am. Doctor Woods gave us the happy news that Erin was a full 10 cm. and that baby was coming out!
Erin started pushing and 20 minutes later, at 10:57, Carson was born! At 8 lbs, 7 ounces, he was not little, much to the surprise of our doctor (although Erin, who should know because she was carrying around all that weight, correctly predicted that the baby would be over 8 lbs). Erin and I were amazed that it was all over so quickly! Carson so far has been well-behaved, not crying too much, and he's pretty good at feeding. In fact, he takes after his dad and just loves to eat! All the nurses commented that Erin hardly looked like she just gave birth!
Well we made it home from the hospital today at around 1 pm, and since then we have all been trying to rest. We'll keep you all updated!
