hey erin! how funny! this is totally gross, but i used to pick those slugs up when i was a little girl (like 4 or 5) and scare my aunties with them, they would scream and drop whatever they were holding because it scared them so badly! i thought it was soooo funny. we called them banana slugs, don't know if that's what they're called, but anyway, i haven't thought of that story forever until i saw those pictures! gotta love seattle... =)

Thanks for reminding me of home. That's a decent looking slug, and the hi-res image really is a nice close-up. Have you seen the spotted ones yet? Those guys are gigantic.

I think I like living in the desert of Utah. All the slugs were about the size of my finger nail. Leave out pie tins full of beer to kill them. That's what we did. Or at least that's what my dad said he was doing out there alone in the backyard....

banana slugs are huge! i think in middle school we were dared to lick one at outdoor education - greg is close enough to lick that one in the picture - i was almost scared for a second!
this thing was bigger, it got all scared and bunched up when I got close to it. and it had big antennas an inch long.
